Remembering the kindness of strangers
A new report from British Future /together coalition that explores the impact of lockdown on our sense of community. The coalition has also set up a national survey asking how we can become a kinder, closer nation.
Ten years in 90 days
This collection of articles from management consultants McKinseys argues that we have experienced 10 years of change in 90 days. Their Five-Fifty series is a great way of sharing ideas – either a five minute highlight tour or a 50 minute deep dive.
Working in uncertainty
A thought provoking article on the need for new ways of organising ourselves that accept and work with uncertainty.
My question is how organizations can lead us not toward some predictable goal, but toward a greater and greater capacity to handle unpredictability, and with it, a greater capacity to love and care about other people.
Business Model You
When Susan was made redundant in 2000 what she wanted most was a tool to think with, that moved beyond the corporate career advice then on offer. She wishes that the Business Model You framework had been available then – it would have saved her a lot of angst and time. As so many people are having to rethink their work at the moment BMY is a great tool to help think about your options. Shameless plug but if anyone wants to talk about how to use the model, or to use it as the basis for some coaching do let me know.
We need a board revolution
Governance is an area that is coming up a lot in discussion at the moment, particularly around diversity. This is a great piece from Getting on Board, do read their report ‘Breaking into a Club Filled with Old White Men,’ says it all really.
Booker Prize longlist 2020
For anyone about to take a bit of time out, or if you just need a brain break from all that’s happening the Booker Prize longlist has some great book ideas.
Luna Park and the Ultrasaurus
Ok, as Chair of Aspex I’m biased but this is a fantastic project! Please help us celebrate the anniversary and maybe consider supporting our crowdfunding for a permanent Ultrasaurus. Jo Bushnell, Director of Aspex has written a great piece on the project for the Portsmouth News and check out some the project activities on the Aspex website. If you happened to be there ten years ago and have any memories of the original Ultrasaurus, please share them with us.
We are taking a bit of a blogging breather in August but will see you again in September. Whatever you are doing in the coming month we wish you well.
