What the Queen’s speech means for the social sector
The lack of new detail in some areas could lead some to dismiss the speech as old news. However, with some big structural shifts, and a teaser of more announcements on the way, charities should be keeping their eyes off the robes and on the detail of what’s happening in Parliament this year.
Power and integrity in the charity sector
NCVO are supporting the launch of a new non-profit, open source initiative: Power & Integrity (PI) Initially the focus will be on
- Developing language and frameworks to address systemic power, and cultivate positive forms of power
- Understanding how seemingly separate aspects of integrity share root causes and can be addressed more coherently
- Exploring the roles of leadership and governance in transitioning to power-sensitive organisations
- Developing an enabling environment through enhanced sector-level coherence and collaboration.
PI are looking for four organisations to take part in a four-month power lab that will ‘build your skills and confidence in understanding, articulating and addressing power for integrity-related decisions.’

Transforming your organization with a trauma-informed approach
Trauma-informed care is rooted in six principles. These principles, which providers may be familiar with applying with the individuals they serve, can also be implemented by leaders on an organizational scale.
Although aimed at the human services sector I think there’s something here to consider across all organisations. Especially given the context we are now working in.
