Corita Kent
During the pandemic I have kept returning to the work and writings of American printmaker, Corita Kent, for inspiration, energy, and hope. The Corita Art Center has a great YouTube channel.
I have had Corita’s rules on my studio wall for some time now, I think they are equally applicable in all areas of life! My favourite is probably ‘don’t try to create and analyse at the same time. They’re different processes.’
Love poem from the Shape of the Field
Nomi Stone, anthropologist and poet reflects on being a social scientist in this beautiful work.
Four ways to get more done in less time
‘…how we can be more productive in ways that feel manageable and good…..you can’t let other people’s priorities determine the course of your day. Rather, you must be deliberate about how you wake up, organise your time, and fit work into your schedule.’
Amanda Gorman’s poetry shows why spoken word belongs in school
A great article illustrating the value of spoken word in schools. It is set in the US context but having experienced a young spoken word poet speak at A New Direction event I am sure some of the benefits are similar here.
During my research studying a diverse group of spoken word poets … I learned that adolescents improved their writing skills, academic performance, confidence, and social skills through writing and performing spoken word poetry. Dr. Katy Connor
Anyone interested in the intersections between art and science should check out the work of Katy Connor. Exciting to see she is included in Watershed’s Spring Residency 2021. Looking forward to seeing what emerges!
Dr Katy Connor is a visual artist and creative producer. Her interdisciplinary projects explore the rich relationships between embodiment and technologies.
Max
I want to acknowledge that for many of us our non-human companions have been an extraordinary source of support over the last year. Congratulations to Max on his PDSA Order of Merit. If you haven’t seen the videos of Max’s walks in Cumbria do take a look on his Facebook page.
