Revised Charity Governance Code is out

A new edition of the Code was issued this week. The sections on integrity and equality, diversity and inclusion have been revised and strengthened. The Code is a great tool for enabling constructive conversations about board development.

The power of (creation) myths

The stories we tell ourselves about how ‘civilisation’ and complex societies got started shape what we see as possible today. If you think hierarchy (chiefs, Big Men, kings and emperors) is inevitable then that is what we replicate. I was reminded of the importance of this whilst watching a webinar with David Wengrow this week and it sent me back to this 2018 article he wrote with the late David Graeber.  Stories are not neutral.

Know where your salary really sits on the scale before you feel low paid

 Excellent and eye opening article on what people are actually earning, at both ends of the spectrum.

‘Among people over 25 about 11 per cent of men and nearly 20 per cent of women employees were, last year, paid £9 an hour or less. The national living wage for the over-25s currently stands at £8.72 an hour. One in ten men and one in five women over the age of 25 in work would, if working a 36-hour week, be earning less than £17,000 a year.’
